Growing up in South Carolina’s “Garden City” of Orangeburg, I developed a life-long affinity for trees and landscaping. Although my dad was the town’s busy obstetrician, he always found time for golf. As soon as I was old enough, my dad cut down a set of old Wilson Staffs and introduced me to the game that would later play an important role in my life.
After obtaining a degree in Real Estate Finance from the University of South Carolina, I secured a license for real estate in the state of South Carolina. But my interest in landscaping soon led me to the University of Georgia’s prestigious School of Environmental Design. There, I studied landscape architecture and land planning, and eventually landed “a dream job;” to work with Tom Fazio on his design team.
Fazio is one of today’s most celebrated golf course designers, and was named the “Best Modern Day Golf Course Architect” by Golf Digest. I worked with the company for 13 years, and refer to Fazio as a mentor. He’s an awesome guy who gave me my big break. I learned, loved and appreciated every minute of it. The experience of a lifetime!
While working with Fazio, I learned about Daniel Island. We were designing the Beresford Creek course. I remember continuously walking the layout, trying to route the course through this beautiful landscape, tweaking the design so we could incorporate as many of the spectacular oak trees and marsh views as possible – and of course, get the best homesites possible.
It was Daniel Island that brought me back to the real estate field, a transition I knew I would one day make when the right opportunity presented itself.
I’m very attached to Daniel Island as I’ve watched it evolve from its infancy to rapid-paced but well thought out development, which is nearing completion. This has been an extremely rewarding process and I’m proud to be a part of it.
My roots are deep in the Carolina Lowcountry. My father, his father – and beyond – grew up here. And, my mother originates from Savannah, not too far away. It is a heritage I really value, and one I feel serves me well in helping folks find their ideal properties. I look forward to many more years of working in real estate on Daniel Island and markets beyond.
